Cannon

HAEF maintains many of Oman’s more historically important cannon in climate-controlled storage. Among them are a very rare 16th-century breechloading cannon, an 1856 bronze British 6-pounder field piece, and an bronze 12-pounder Napoleon cast by the famous firm of Cyrus Alger in Boston, USA in 1862. The latter gun played a part in the siege of Richmond, the Confederate capital, during the American Civil War. Each of these 19th-century cannon is mounted on a carriage and limber constructed by HAEF’s craftsmen after meticulous research in international archives to establish their exact specification.  Even the limber storage for the artillerymen’s carbines is replicated, furnished with original carbines of the period.
